laguna beach, california, united states of america
California is home to some of the most diverse and exciting terrains. It's one of the only places I know of where you can snowboard in the morning, and go surfing in the afternoon. Growing up in this kind of environment has been the source of immense joy and discovery as a child. Upon my last visit though, California happened to be in the midst of one of the most intense droughts. While I'm no stranger to the desert landscape, I was still taken aback by the dryness and decay. My parents had talked about it with me, but the severity of the climate's consequences didn't hit me as hard as it did until I was home.
It's hard to stay up-to-date, or to even care, about things halfway around the world. But everyone still has an equal responsibility to respect the land we walk upon. After all, there are only finite resources available to us. While this generation may squeak by, our children may not be as fortunate.
