After spending the night in Lille, we continued to drive west snaking through small towns scattered along the way. The drive was long, but time passed quickly while blasting 70's disco and asking each other a slew of "would you rather..." questions. We got lost in Arras, but I really couldn't complain. Looking out into an expanse of hills and grass with houses situated right next to ruins and monuments from World War I was an incredible sight. It was like watching two separate towns from different decades rising up next to each other. I pulled over next to the remains of a cathedral, and climbed its walls trying to imagine what life was like before its destruction. I definitely left simultaneously somber, and in awe of human nature.
